Christmas is coming

Had another seizure last night, 1:11 AM.
But only one.

Yesterday Mom and I made cookies. Rolling out the dough and cutting is great fun. BUt I never eat them. Just give them away.

Dad showed me a fun Christmas card available on line. You can look at it too by going to:

Then we took some to my hair stylist, Rosa. She is great.

Great Fun

Well, the weekend got warmer. Dad still put a Dura Flame on the fire. Sure is fun to watch.

Now we are off the airport, train tracks and maybe a motorcyle or two.

12-5 thru12-8

12-8-2005
Cold enough? Hey feels like back in Michigan. Anyway, Alex had a fun night. We lost power from 6-8 PM. So we made a fire in the fire place. That was great fun. Then is AM trying to get him up, I say, ‘Alex, remember last night we had a fire?” And still with his eyes closed to hands come together and sign – more. We are happy not to have had seizures. And that the drooling is less. I even forgot to put a wrist band on this morning. That was nice he got to deliver pies. It appears one whistle is missing from the lanyard. Just so you he did leave home without it. Have a great day.

12-07
Morning, Alex had a good night. He helped a little with Christmas decorations. Slept well. And no seizures. This morning, he was a little hard to get up. But he choose French toast over cheese and egg omelet. Ate 3 pieces and had some coffee. The bus arrived but he seemed distracted. He was not focused on getting on the bus. Hmmm….

He had a good breakfast and we are waiting on the bus. There is lunch money and movie funds in his backpack. We also sent in an extra coat.

12-06-05
Alex did well today. I showed a little bit of a Harry Potter movie so they prepare for the field trip on Monday. He chose to do lacing and puzzles. We all noticed that drooling was very limited in language arts class today. Sheila Ory

12-05
Alex had a great weekend. His sister was down from Austin. He always enjoys seeing Megan. Last night he went out with Grandpa while Marycke, Megan, & I attended a wedding. Those two boys always seem to have a great time at Mac Donald’s and the airport. Anyway, no seizures, nice cool weather, enjoy your day.

Reply: Sounds like he is off to a great start for this week. It is good that he is so strong and willing. Lane

11-28 thru12-02

12-02
Alex had a good night. Slept well. He got up fairly well this AM He ate a good breakfast of 3 French toast, sausage and some coffee. A big. ‘hello’, as his grandpa came in. Right now we are disagreeing on whether the vacuum cleaner hose goes in the back pack or stays home. I elected the later.

Reply
I am happy that Alex gave you the option of choosing the later. Have a super weekend. Lane

12-2-05
Alex was absorbed in his number puzzle and lacing activity most of the period. He got a little short with other students who tried to get him to agree that Santa is nice. When they would say "Santa"...he'd yell back "Yucky". After hearing "yucky" twice they finally stopped trying to convince him that Santa is nice. Sheila Ory

12-01-05
Yeah well, Alex did have a seizure last night. Around 9 PM, just as he was going to the bathroom. But he only had the one. This morning he was a little hard to get up. But once up, he ate well and seemed pretty good. I would expect more drooling today. And maybe a couple ‘staring spells’.
Enjoy your day.

11-30
Here comes the boy! Alex had a good night and seems ready for work this AM. He ate well and then was more than happy to go out and wait on the bus. He found 3 Orange leaves. Of which he is very proud! Have a great day.
Neal

11-29
Glad things went well yesterday. Alex came home without his coat and minus 2 whistles. Maybe they can make it today. He had a good night. Woke up well and ate a good breakfast. Have fun.

11-28
Welcome back. We hope everyone had a pleasant holiday. Alex did very well. Only a couple single seizures over the past week. He enjoyed having his sisters here and then Turkey day was fun. He is back into ‘trucks’ and big machines. He watched his tapes of the CAT machines over and over.

11-14 thru 11-18

11-18-2005
Morning all,
Alex had a good night. Marycke and I went to the EFA Art Gala so Alex and Haley went to Mac Donald’s. What fun! He slept well and got up okay. Breakfast was great and he was ready for the bus. Hope all goes well. We do not plan to have Alex at bowling tomorrow.
Enjoy your day and weekend.

11-17
Thanks for watching after Alex yesterday. By the time we got home he was over his ‘spell’ and never did have seizures. He had a good diner, slept well and got up alright this AM After a fine breakfast he was ready for the bus. Hope you have a wonderful day.

Reply: Alex did fine today. He tried something new. He sorted DVD's in their plastic cases by numbers 1-5. He was able to match the number on the container with the correct number on the display box. I guess he felt adventurous today. May you and yours have a safe and relaxing Thanksgiving. Sheila Ory

Alex took the last step off the bus with both feet and landed very securely and smiled and then clapped his hands. He seemed to me to be very excited and full of energy. In my 4th period class he survived until 3:30 then he slowed down tremendously. Lane

11-16-2005
Yesterday he fell asleep within two minutes of sitting down on the couch. He was almost snoring he was sleeping so hard. Then all of a sudden he jumped up real fast and walked across the room and his face turned almost instantly pale. His eyes froze in one positional focus and we knew he was going into a seizure. We put him down on the physical therapy for observation and he started twitching his leg. We then notified the nurse and the rest is history. He is such a wonderful young man. It is indeed my pleasure to have your son in my class. Lane

11-16-2005
Alex had a good night and got up just fine this AM.
We went with Grandpa to the Blue Cactus Café (formerly Tommy Wilson’s on Whetmore) where he enjoyed a dinner of sausage and fries AND got to see 2 trains pass by. Sure was fun.
Then a quiet night of puzzles and buggin’ the dog. No seizure. Good breakfast.

11-15-2005
Alex had a good night. He and I were home alone last night. So we ordered Dominos. Alex had great fun paying the pizza guy. And then eating 4 slices. Then a little Monday Night football – how about them Cowboys – then shower time. He slept well, no seizures, and ate a great breakfast. Have a wonderful day.

Neal & Marycke,
I am glad Alex ate and slept well. He is doing great in ALE Reading. He did say no the the professor (on Edmark) but he did the lesson anyway. He current new word on the program is "my". He then practiced writing his last name (still not good), and then spelling words with magnetic letters. He passed a little gas and thought that was really funny. Have a great day and enjoy Thanksgiving week, Linda Higgins

11-14-2005
Alex had a good night after an up and down weekend. He had seizures Saturday AM and Sunday PM but only 1 on each occasion. Saturday AM he got up on his won, after the seizure, so we went for pancakes & sausage at Mickey D’s and then to watch some trains. By 11 AM we were off to the hair stylist. Nice haircut eh?

Saturday PM, we went to Rolling Oaks for dinner. Then we came out to a flat tire on the van. While waiting for the tow truck there was a Hummer carjacked on the other side of the mall. Alex enjoyed all the sirens and the BIG tow truck with it’s flashing orange lights.

Sunday was quieter. His sister came down from Austin. We just worked around the house (after getting new tires). Then Sunday night just before bath time he had another seizure.

So the pattern seems to be changing. In October we only had 4 days with a seizure. Usually on a Friday or Saturday. Now in November we have had 2-3 times per week, Wed. Fri. Sat. Sun. it does not seem to matter what day.

11/07 thru 11/11

11-11

Morning folks, Alex had a good night (he always seems to do well in our bed.) and got up okay this AM. He enjoyed a good breakfast of French crepes, bacon, sausage and coffee.
We had the windows open and he seems fascinated with the birds outside the window.
The we saw Grandpa walking the dog while we waited on he bus.
Hope you have a great day and wonderful weekend.

11-11-05
Alex was so happy today. Once he starts on the lacing activity, it's hard to get him to do different task. Also, a student gave Alex a flat-handed pat on his back when we were lining up to go down to Mr. Warden's room. It was a little too hard. Alex smiled and nodded yes when I asked him if he was ok. We are working with the student on keeping his hands to himself. Sheila Ory

11-10
Morning gang. Well he is on the bus. Little hard to get up this AM so we ran behind. But he did have a good night. Meanwhile, sorry about no belt again. I just can’t seem to find it. Anyway these pants seem a little tighter. Hope you all have a good day. Alex ate all his French toast and most of his sausage.

11-09
Well, Alex had a couple seizures last night, and as Marycke said, ‘It’s not even Friday night.’ Yeah we were caught off guard having a seizure on a week night. Oh well. Hopefully he will be up soon and we will be at bowling. If not I will still drop off the cookies. We were wondering…

Yesterday Alex came home very thirsty and hungry. Did he have lunch? What has he been eating for lunch? Sorry about the loose pants, I guess no one got the note about a belt in his backpack. But then again Marycke said he ‘fits right in with the other high school boys.”

11-08-2005
Morning folks,
Alex had a great night. We continued to watch his Air show DVD over and over. But then he ate well. Again he was still awake after 11 PM last night. He got up slowly this AM. But he ate well and was ready for the bus.

Sorry about the baggy pants. I could not find his belt this AM. I did put in his backpack one that was too long. But maybe it will work. I think Marycke ‘forgets’ to put his clothes out from time to time, just so I will appreciate it more that she does. And I do.
Anyway, hope you all have a great day!

11-07-2005
Morning All. We had a nice weekend – after Friday night. We made our usual stop at Willies for dinner. Alex ate hamburger and fries (so I guess it does not have to be salad everyday for lunch.), then off to Schertz to watch some trains. That night he had a seizure around 1:20 AM and another 7 AM.

So I figure he may miss the EFA bowl-a-thon. But no, 8 AM, he is up saying, ‘Neal. Train. Bob. Go.!’ And off we went bowling. Alex did great the EFA raised lots of money.

Sunday it was time for the Air Show at Randolph. Alex had a great time. I put a DVD with about 9 minutes from the show in his backpack. Don’t know if you all have DVD players or the time to watch it.

10/26=11/04

11-03-2005
Great morning! I was a little worried because he took a long time to get to sleep again last night. But he got up on his own about 7:30. Ate a good breakfast. Do his puzzle watched some train video. Said hi to Grandpa and my jeweler friend Dan, and then was ready for the bus. His lunch money is in his backpack. Have a great day.

Alex was in the best mood today for Language Arts! He worked non-stop and was laughing and when he'd finish a task, he'd yell, "Allright!'' Mrs. Ory

11-02-2005
Here comes our boy! He had a good night but stayed up very late (past 11 PM). So he was difficult to get up this AM. But he ate okay. Did not have anything to drink. Perked up when his Grandpa came in. And then even more so when our neighbor Alan stopped by. So we have had a busy morning already. Hopefully bowling goes okay. There is $6 in his backpack along with his whistles. I assume you are having lunch somewhere.

Have a great day.

Regards,
Neal

Well 24 hours makes a big difference.
Alex slept all day after bringing him home. Our neuro sent Alex for a blood test. He did great and then wanted Mac Donald’s. After that he had a grand time handing out candy and answering the door bell. Some of the costumes seemed to be a bit confusing.
Then through out the night he was popping up saying, ‘train’, ‘Neal’, ‘bop’ and all those other words he has.
This morning he got up at 5:45 AM. He has been watching Wheel, trains, planes, ate well, drank some coffee, took his meds, big ‘Lo’ for his Grandpa and now is ready for the bus.
I expect he may lose steam after lunch. I put his train tape in his backpack. I’m not sure if the kids ever have ‘quiet time’ where they can watch a vide tape.

Regards,

Neal

Oops, the one morning you probably could have used details on Alex and I go walking before emailing you all. Sorry. 

Anyway, after the 2nd Diastat on Friday, Alex had no more seizures. He slept through till Saturday afternoon. Never really eating or drinking. Around 4 PM he did get up enough for me to take him to Mac Donald’s for fries and then some train watching.

But after that he was back in bed and slept through till about 11 Am Sunday.

When he did get up he seemed out of balance. Kinda of a ‘drunken sailor’ gait. So back to bed. The he was up again 5 PM for Mac Donald’s and trains.

He went to bed early again and seemed to get up okay.

He was not interested in breakfast but did eat. He has not drunken much. So please encourage him to drink water, tea, coke, what ever.

Have a great day.

Neal

No Alex today.

It has been a long time since Alex has had 5 or more seizures. But since 1:00 AM last night and now through 8 AM he has had 5. We had to give him Diastat.

So no Alex today.

We hope you have a good weekend.

Morning,
Somebody was VERY hard to wake up this AM. But he eventually got to the table.
Alex had a good night. He very much is back ‘in to’ watching Wheel. We watched 3 hours yesterday afternoon and evening. But it’s nice to hear him repeat back the letters or snap hi singers when they guess wrong.
We hope you have a great day.

Neal
